Device Lookup

Search computers quickly and open the authoritative Jamf record.

Device Lookup is a computer-first operational search surface. It keeps supported identifiers narrow, ranks exact matches first, leaves ambiguous matches visible, and loads the full device detail only after selection.

Serial numberJamf computer nameUsername

Supported search identifiers

  • Exact serial number matches rank first.
  • Exact Jamf computer name matches rank next.
  • Exact username matches rank after that.
  • Prefix and contains matches are shown lower in the result list.

Search is intentionally narrow

Device Lookup does not try to be a fuzzy people search. It is tuned for operational identifiers that Jamf administrators already trust: serial number, Jamf computer name, and username.

Result ranking and ambiguity

If more than one device matches the query, Veridominus keeps the candidate list visible instead of picking one silently. This helps administrators verify the right record before opening the full detail or sending a command.

What the detail panel shows

  • Identity: name, serial number, model, and operating system version
  • Ownership and user context: Jamf username, real name, department, building, and room where available
  • Enrollment and management state: ABM / DEP indicator, user-approved MDM, and enrollment date where Jamf returns it
  • Freshness: last check-in and explicit current, stale, or unknown state messaging
  • Operational detail: purchasing and warranty fields, policy history, LAPS where allowed, and device activity when loaded

The detail panel reflects the current Jamf record returned by the app’s supported device detail fetch. It is authoritative for what Jamf returned at that moment. It is not a live device-side status feed.

Available MDM commands

CommandOperational meaning
Update InventoryRequests a full hardware and software inventory update from the device.
Blank PushSends a silent MDM push to verify the channel is active.
RestartRequests an immediate device restart.
Shut DownRequests an immediate shutdown.
Lock DeviceLocks the device with a PIN.
Erase DevicePermanently erases the device. This is destructive and confirmation-gated.

Execution certainty

Device Lookup confirms Jamf submission of the command request. It does not claim device-side completion unless Jamf returns later evidence elsewhere.

Freshness and unavailable data

Device Lookup does not present stale inventory as current. Freshness banners and unknown states remain visible in the detail panel, and permission or session failures should surface as errors instead of silently reusing stale data.
