Device Activity Timeline

A chronological device history built from the Jamf activity sources the current app can read.

Device Activity Timeline helps you answer a practical question: what has Jamf reported for this Mac recently, and in what order? The view aggregates supported activity records into one timeline and keeps unsupported history types out of the result instead of inventing them.

Per-device timelineSupported Jamf history sourcesExplicit event coverage

Current event coverage

  • Enrollment event based on the returned Jamf computer general record
  • Policy run history from Jamf computer history policy logs
  • MDM command history from Jamf command history endpoints
  • Inventory update context from the latest returned inventory record
  • Check-in time from the returned computer preview detail when available

How to use it

Open a Mac in Device Lookup, expand Activity Timeline, then filter to the event types that are actually present for that device. The timeline groups returned events by date and lets you focus on a single supported event type or on failed events only.

Data sources

  • Jamf computer general detail for enrollment and inventory context
  • Jamf computer history policy logs for policy runs
  • Jamf MDM command history for submission status
  • Jamf computer preview detail for the latest reported check-in time

Coverage notes

  • The current release does not claim a full device event ledger for every possible Jamf action.
  • Script runs are shown through policy history where Jamf exposes them, not as a universal script execution log.
  • Profile install and removal, patch install, OS update, and MDM renewal event types should not be assumed present unless the app actually returns them for the device.
  • Timeline depth depends on what Jamf currently retains and returns for that device.

What a missing event means

A missing event row does not prove the underlying action never happened. It means the current supported Jamf history sources did not return that event for this device.
